Switch, India’s first campus channel
Combining creativity and technology, AICAR has launched India’s first campus channel, Switch. Conceived and nurtured by Prof Anand Kurian, Switch will feature News, Debates, Discussions & Interviews, and cover Sports, Entertainment, Events & Reality Shows as well.
The channel is run by a board of directors, consisting entirely of students. The students have given the channel its name, designed the logo and decided on the culture and character of the channel. They have built up a team, affectionately called ‘Switch-ers’ who have scripted, directed and edited a series of programmes, from ‘DareDevils‘ and ‘Golmaal’ to a travel show and a documentary on ‘Child Labour’.“Switch would not have been possible without the technical expertise of Mr Shreyas Nambiar,” says Prof Anand Kurian, “he has been able to iron out every technical wrinkle, even before it has appeared.” The four members of the Board are: Ms Neha Modi, Ms Jigna Raithatha, Mr Sunil Jhurani and Ms Pooja Kapadia but the entire student body (and some faculty as well) have been enthusiastic participants.
Switch is available on the college intranet, where it can be accessed by students, faculty and staff. It will soon be available on the college website, where it will be accessible to all. The enthusiasm and passion of the students has given the channel a style and professionalism that has come as a surprise to many communication specialists. A chair on wheels has been used as a makeshift track and trolley; a paragliding trip was used to take aerial shots of the hills around the campus. Switch was inaugurated by the Chairman of Cadbury’s, Mr C.Y. Pal, who described it as ‘an example of the power of an innovative idea’.
